ReShonda Tate: Let her words move you

NASHVILLE, TN — Renowned author ReShonda Tate is the featured presenter at the 2024 Literary Luncheon, a program of the Nashville Chapter of Les Gemmes, Inc. The event is Saturday, May 18 at the Music City Center, Davidson Ballroom in Nashville.

Tate, a former journalist, has a talent with words. She can make a situation come to life with imagery and word structure. Her words can move you. She has a talent to make everyday life reverberate in your spirit and touch your soul. She is indeed a writer extraordinaire. As the national bestselling author of more than 50 books, she has the credentials, and the passion, to bring stories to life.

Tate writes both adult and teen fiction, as well as non-fiction. Her sophomore novel, Let the Church Say Amen, was made into a film directed by actress Regina King and produced by TD Jakes and Queen Latifah.

The book, The Queen of Sugar Hill; A Novel of Hattie McDaniel goes into Hollywood history and examines talent and racism. Tate presents a fascinating fictional portrait of Hattie McDaniel, one of Hollywood’s most prolific but woefully underappreciated stars—and the first Black person ever to win an Oscar for her role as Mammy in the critically acclaimed film classic Gone With the Wind. While her role in the movie was criticized by several Black organizations for her portrayal of a “silly ninny” maid, she played the role in a most outstanding manner, winning an Oscar. The film was one of BET’s highest-rated programs and Tate made a cameo appearance. It was Tate’s words that brought to life a true appreciation for her acting talent and drive.

Her book, The Secret She Kept, was also made into a movie and aired on TV One. Tate made a cameo in that movie as well.

A highly sought-after motivational speaker and award-winning poet, Tate is the recipient of the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literature for her book Say Amen, Again and was also nominated for her books Mama’s Boy and The Secret She Kept. She has received a plethora of distinguished awards and honors for her journalism, fiction, and poetry writing skills, including an induction into the Arkansas Black Hall of Fame and a Texas Top Author honor. Tate is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Considered one of the top African-American authors in the country, her books remain a staple on Bestseller’s lists and have been featured in USA Today, The Washington Post, Jet, People, Essence, and Ebony Magazines.

The Honorable Karen Johnson and Dr. Candra Clariette serve as co-chairs of the event. These leaders and the entire membership invite you to be present for this outstanding Literary Luncheon.

Plan to attend and listen to Tate bring words to life. It is an experience you won’t want to miss. Individual tickets are $100.00 and a table of ten is $1000.00.
