KNOXVILLE, TN — Two of Knoxville’s top Black women organizations dedicated to building Black wealth, providing access to capital, and investing in Black business, held the second annual Crown Pitch Competition in Knoxville on June 14th. Five Black businesses showcased and pitched their businesses before a panel of three judges with the first-place winner receiving $7,500 and 2nd place receiving $2,500 in business grant funds. The competition is designed to open doors and create relationships for those who compete with resources and mentoring opportunities available following the event. The Women, LLC of Knoxville and Shora Foundation – The Roots Collective were the first in the city years ago, to give priority to and provide access to capital for Black businesses. Shora Foundation founder, Tanika Harper said,” When one of us wins, we all win.” Since its inception, $35,000 has been poured into the Black community through this competition.

The choice was not easy for judges Marc Hall, Melissa Nelson, and Terrence Carter as all five businesses are highly successful. Jasmine Allmon, who won first place is the owner of Allmon Artistry. Allmon is a licensed beauty, health, and wellness professional specializing in cosmetic and medical tattooing. The other competitors were, Daesya Parker owner of Silver Lining Productions, specialist in digital storytelling, specializing in preserving the stories of Black people. Jaleria Rivera created and continues to build Space Craft, an artist owned makerspace. Sabrina Turner owns Euphoric Phrames Photography and specializes in commercial photography, portraits and special events and Kifeney Walker, owner of Natural Aesthetics, professional barber, stylist, and educator rounded out the top five finalists.
