TN Tribune-As part of the Harris-Walz campaign’s push to engage youth voters on college campuses, the campaign launched a new landing page geared towards students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. In addition to resources to register to vote and get involved with the campaign, the page includes a letter from one of the most prestigious HBCU graduates ever: Vice President Kamala Harris.

In the letter, Vice President Harris welcomed HBCU students back to campus, and made clear: “Your vote has never mattered more.” The letter also highlights the impact that the Vice President’s time at Howard University had on her life and career in public service. Vice President Harris also directly addresses the stakes of this election for young voters of color — telling students that their fundamental freedoms are all at risk in this election. She emphasized, “When young people fight for progress, it changes the course of our nation.”

The Harris-Walz campaign will continue engaging with HBCU students through Election Day, including paid media blitzes specified for HBCU campuses, ads in campus newspapers, campus organizing efforts, and heightened engagement during the electrifying HBCU homecoming season.

The Harris-Walz campaign’s targeted initiative focusing on HBCUs includes expanding youth organizing staff, digital ads, and a campus tour across 11 battleground states.

Harris, an alumna of Howard University, emphasizes the transformative experience of attending an HBCU and the importance of political engagement.

“At an HBCU, you’re empowered to be anything and do everything without excuse,” Harris wrote in the letter. She calls on students to vote in the upcoming election, reminding them, “Your vote has never mattered more.”

Jasmine Harris, Black media director for the Harris-Walz campaign, highlighted the significance of HBCUs and said, “Historically Black Colleges and Universities remain some of our nation’s most prestigious institutions of higher education, and are responsible for educating dynamic and influential leaders across all industries.

“Our campaign will continue working to earn every single vote and ensure HBCU students understand that from student loan forgiveness to job creation and protecting a woman’s right to make her own health care decisions—Vice President Harris is the only candidate in this election who has delivered for them and will continue fighting for their future.”
