Bishop James William Russell July 19, 1961-July 31, 2026. Born in Eagleville, TN. to Eugene & Mary Russell. He departed this earthly life on Friday, July 31, 2026 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro, TN. James professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Temple Church under the leadership of Pastor Michael Graves which also lead to his calling to preach.
He touched many lives, pastoring several churches over the years with the last being New Generation M. B. Church before retiring in 2023 to become the Bishop and overseer. You could still catch him bringing the word up until his illness would not allow. James was apart of the Starlight Jubilee’s from 1992-2002. He attended Metro Nashville Public Schools and was a graduate of the 1979 class from Whites Creek High School.James was employed as a truck driver for many years until his health failed him.
He enjoyed going to church, singing, traveling, fishing, and spending time with his family.James preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Mary Russell, brother Richard Terry Russell, uncle Rueben Starnes, grandson Ke’Marion Harrison.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories wife Convonnia Russell; children Neioki (William) Massey, Corey, Kenyatta, Lashawnatanika Preston, Yashica (Quintin) Eskridge, and Kasia Brittain; brothers Larry (Toni) Russell, Morris Wayne Russell, Michael (Jacci) Russell, Herbert Starnes; Aunts Frances Southers and Shirley Batts; Uncle Willie (Susan) Starnes; 27 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
