NASHVILLE, TN — The vice chair- man of Franklin’s school board has been elected to the All Tennessee School Board by the state association of school boards.

Robert Blair, who’s also president of the Greater Nashville Alliance of Black School Educators, has been treasurer of the Franklin Special School District and served on FSSD’s Financial Strategic, and Energy Management committees.

The Greater Nashville Alliance of Black School Educators recently met in the Jackson Street Church of Christ.

“He’s outstanding about being involved in school activities, going to evening events,” FSSD Director David Snowden said Nov. 17. “And he’s active in the community.”

Blair was nominated by Snowden and his fellow board members. The Tennessee School Boards Association named Blare and four others to the All Tennessee School Board during its annual convention Nov. 5-7 at Opryland Hotel. Usually, there’s no more than seven members elected to the board.

Election to the All Tennessee School Board is an honor reflecting leadership, quality service, participation in board developments and accomplishment of board goals.

“The honor is definitely well deserved for the outstanding work he does as a member of the FSSD Board,” Snowden said.

With a $42 million budget, Franklin’s K-8 school system has approximately 3,700 students taught in eight schools. FSSD board members aren’t compensated for their service. They’re reimbursed for out of district travel costs.

FSSD’s biggest challenges are financial and “continuing to implement new testing requirements along with the new standards to make sure our students are prepared for the Tennessee Ready Assessments (TN- Ready) under TCAP (Tennessee Comprehensive Assessment Program) which focuses on math and reading language arts,” Snowden said.

Also during the TSBA convention, FSSD’s board received the prestigious Board of Distinction Award which recognizes board members for their work as a whole, meeting requirements on planning, policy, promotion and board development.

“Our collective group of board members works tirelessly on behalf of students and employees,” Snowden said. Since 1999, FSSD Board has received this award five times.
