NASHVILLE, TN — The Middle Tennessee Bulldawgs jumped out to a 28-0 first quarter lead then cruised the rest of the way defeating the Tennessee Rampage 46-0 in Mid-south Football Alliance play from White Creek High School. Tight end Kyle Woodard scored on two touchdown passes from quarterback Cass Barnes, earning Woodard player of the game honors.
“Kyle has been steady for us all season,” said Bulldawg head coach Blaine Boone. “He is like having a coach on the field. He reads coverages well and knows how to get open. He reminds us of (Dallas Cowboy tight end) Jason Whitten. Big, physical and catches everything. It was good to see him score twice.”
Woodard’s first score started the onslaught on the Bulldawgs’ first possession. After the defense held, Barnes hit wide receiver Lawrence Gilbert on a 78-yard pass on a one play series. Kali Perkins then ran a punt back 95-yards for a touchdown and the rout was on.
The defense joined the fun with Twin Johnson scoring on a 43-yard interception return in the second quarter and newcomer Vaughn Cornelia intercepting a pass and going five yards for a score. Barnes ended the game with three touchdown passes giving him 10 in his past three games. Back-up Zach Ducker threw a touchdown pass on the Bulldawgs lone fourth quarter possession due to a running clock.
“We were efficient all game on all sides of the ball,” said Barnes. “We ran the ball well but our passing game is lethal. I have weapons across the board. Our defense is fun to watch. I know how good they are because I have to practice against them. They make it easy to come out on Saturdays and do good.”
The victory was the 17th in a row for the new franchise. After going 10-0 in the spring and winning the Middle Tennessee Football League championship, they are now 7-0 in the MFSA hoping to make it two rings in one season.
“Our goal is to continue this streak and get people to notice us around the country,” said Bulldawg owner Ricky Prochaska. “I made a bold statement a few weeks ago challenging the top teams in the country. Our guys have made me look good so far. We need to keep this going.”
