Meharry Medical College has launched the largest fundraising effort in its nearly 150-year history, announcing Campaign 150 — a $500 million initiative to strengthen scholarships, research, and institutional growth. College officials revealed that more than $400 million has already been secured in early gifts, positioning the campaign to become the most successful in Meharry’s history.

The announcement was celebrated Wednesday afternoon at the Cal Turner Family Center on Meharry’s Nashville campus, with remarks from Dr. James E.K. Hildreth, Meharry’s president and CEO, who delivered the keynote address. Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell and several Meharry leaders and alumni are also slated to attend.

“Campaign 150” aims to bolster the college’s endowment, fund new research facilities, expand program initiatives, and increase faculty support. The campaign also seeks to provide additional scholarships to ensure access for students committed to serving underserved communities.

The event also featured Meharry Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Nelson L. Adams III, campaign co-chairs Carol Williams-Hood and Tom Curtis, trustee Jim Williams, and Meharry faculty members.

Founded in 1876, Meharry Medical College is a historically Black academic health sciences institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The college trains physicians, dentists, and biomedical scientists with an emphasis on serving marginalized populations. According to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, Meharry consistently ranks among the nation’s top producers of African American graduates in medicine, dentistry, and the biomedical sciences.
