NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Metro Animal Care and Control (MACC) is introducing a new system to Davidson County residents to aid in rehoming pets through the Home to Home service. By directly connecting adopters to those working to rehome their pets, MACC hopes to ensure more pets can quickly find better living situations and fewer owners will be forced to surrender their pets to MACC.
The Home to Home system allows families that are interested in adopting a pet to browse listings of pets that need a new home. Profiles of adoptable pets are posted by families that need to find a new home for their pet. MACC’s Safety Net Coordinator reviews each profile posted to the platform, ensuring all rules and regulations are followed. After approval from MACC, the profiles would appear on the Home to Home platform and on MACC’s social media. Potential adopters would then be able to contact the owner, who would screen potential adopters to determine the best fit for their pet. No rehoming fees are collected in the exchange.
The Home to Home system allows more pets to find better homes without the need for an owner to surrender the pet to MACC. This can reduce stress to the animal and the owner and keeps kennels at MACC open for other animals in need. Those who make an appointment to surrender their pet to MACC will be informed of the Home to Home system as an alternative.
The Home to Home system is currently in place, allowing those needing to rehome their pets to post their pet’s profile at www.Home-Home.org. Rehoming a pet is one service provided to the public as part of the Pet Safety Net program, in addition to food distributions from the Pet Pantry, supply distribution, spay and neuter vouchers, behavior training and more services designed to keep more pets with their families.
