Nashville, Tenn. (TN Tribune)-Eight pieces of legislation aimed at addressing the city’s current zoning policy and housing affordability crisis are before the Metro Council. With the intent to impact zoning policy and increase the amount of “Missing Middle Housing,” the bills address a range of zoning and building code regulations. These bills will be on first reading over the next one to two months.
The term “Missing Middle Housing” encompasses the range of housing types that fall between single family homes and mid-rise multi-family housing. This includes a variety of housing options, including duplexes, triplexes, cottage courts, townhouses, and live/work units. These housing options are easily integrated into the look and scale of existing residential neighborhoods, while supporting walkability, locally-serving retail, and public transportation. Most importantly Missing Middle Housing can offer housing solutions along a spectrum of affordability to address the mismatch between the available housing stock and the needs of residents.
Metro Council will be holding several public meetings across the county to discuss the legislation. Upcoming public meetings include:

- Mar 9, 3:00pm – Bordeaux Library
- Mar 27, 5:30pm – Madison Library
- Mar 28, 5:30pm – Donelson/Hermitage (location TBD)
