Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) and Discovery Education, the leading provider of digital content for K-12 classrooms, will co-host the district’s STEAM launch event followed by the district’s first STEAM leadership retreat on Aug. 2 as MNPS prepares to launch STEAM curriculum in all middle schools.
At the leadership retreat, attendees will examine data about regional STEAM  (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math)  jobs, participate in a hands-on STEAM experience, and discuss the idea of STEAM education and how it can help shape the local community.  The leadership retreat will link the district’s STEAM efforts to local community goals and will support the development of plans to include the Nashville community

Operating under one unifying vision – to be the fastest-improving urban school system in America and to ensure that every student becomes a life-long learner prepared for success in college, career and life — MNPS is undergoing a transformative, three-year middle school reinvention plan, centered around a rigorous and relevant interdisciplinary STEAM curriculum that will challenge students to think critically and develop innovative solutions to problems while empowering them to imagine new careers for themselves. This event will showcase what STEAM will look like for Metro Schools students, staff and the community partners that will make this a reality for students.

    Speakers:
    ·         Harold Love, State Representative
    ·         Anna Shepherd, Chair, Board of Public Education
    ·         Dr. Shawn Joseph, Director of Schools, MNPS
    ·         Cindy Moss, Discovery Education
    ·         Kris Elliot, Director of STEM, MNPS
    ·         Carlos Calderon, MNPS Educator

    Wednesday, August 2: 8:30 – 10 a.m.
