NASHVILLE, TN — The NBC show “Found” has taken the premise of searching for missing people in a very different direction.

The weekly show starring Shanola Hampton features her leading a team searching for missing people of color.

It pivots off a 2016 study showing that missing Black children were drastically underrepresented in news broadcasts.

The website Black and Missing was created to address this issue.  The show also spotlights the fact that as of 2022 recent studies showed nearly 40 percent of the 546-to-568 people reported missing were people of color.

Hampton portrays Gabi Mosely, leader of a special squad. Both she and her team use unorthodox methods to find long missing victims who’ve often been forgotten.

A major plot twist is that Mosely uses tips from the man who once kidnapped her. Sir, played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar, is both her prisoner and part of her team.

Hampton says her character utilizes very different means of funding missing people out of desperation.

“There’s nothing that she (her character) won’t do to save a life,” she told the Shadow and Act website. “And with that being her log line, she will cross every line. She doesn’t mind if she has to spend some time in jail for it, because that person is home with their family. And that’s the most important thing to her.”

“Found” has already been renewed for a second season. The final two episodes of season one will air next Tuesday and Jan. 16 on NBC, locally on WSMV-4, at 8 p.m. central time.
