NASHVILLE, TN — Samuel L. Jackson has portrayed Nick Fury, head of the spy agency SHIELD, through so many Marvel films and television shows that only longtime comic book readers remember the original character was a white World War II veteran who later switched over to the world of espionage.
But in the new Disney+ series “Secret invasion,” which debuted last Wednesday, viewers will see a very different version of Nick Fury.
Fury and his allies are trying to prevent an invasion of Earth by the shape-shifting Skrulls. It’s the ninth TV series in the Marvel Cinemstic Universe (MCU) and like its predecessors it shares storylines and characters with a similarly titled Marvel Comic volume.
It is directed by Ali Selim and features a large cast. Don Mendelsohn, Don Cheadle, Kingsley Ben Adir, Killian Scott, and Olivia Colman are among others starring in the miniseries.
Jackson’s Nick Fury is showing signs of age, and doesn’t have his trademark eyepatch.
He’s both returned to earth after being in space and also is no longer head of SHIELD.
How Fury and those whose support he enlists battle the Skrulls, as well as how his life continues to evolve and change, will be the focus of this six-particular series that continues to air on Disney+.
