    NASHVILLE, TN — Reverend Roderick Belin, pastor of Lee Chapel A.M.E. Church in North Nashville has been elected president and publisher of the African Methodist Episcopal Church Sunday School Union.

    The election took place on Monday, July 11, during the denomination’s General Conference, held in Philadelphia, during the denomination’s Bicentennial anniversary. Rev. Belin won this position in his first time vying for a connectional officer position and follows his father, Bishop Henry Allen Belin, Jr. who held the post before being elected Bishop.

    The newly elected president and publisher said “I am grateful.”

    John Thomas, III, of Nashville, also becomes a general officer of the African Methodist Episcopal Church. He was elected editor of the Christian Recorder, the nations oldest Black newspaper. Thomas is a member of Lee Chapel.

    Richard Lewis, treasurer and chief financial officer of the denomination was re-elected Treasurer, a position he has held since 1996.

    As a result of the election, there will be three general officers of the 13th district, which covers Tennessee and Kentucky.The African Methodist Episcopal Church is the oldest Black religious denomination in the United States and is represented in 39 countries.
