NASHVILLE, TN — The Southern Region of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated proudly announces the 49th Southern Regional Conference Impact Day: “Turn the Page” Banned Book Drive.

In alignment with one of the organization’s Five-Point Programmatic Thrusts, education development, one of the best forms of education is through literacy and access to books. This year’s Impact Day is dedicated to purchasing and distributing banned African American books, in response to recent legislative efforts to remove these significant works from the public school systems.

The sorority will partner with 15 local youth-focused agencies, donating a minimum of 100 books to each organization. Additionally, through collaboration with more than 15 public schools and preschools, the sorority will ensure that children have access to books that provide a complete and inclusive history.

Impact Day will feature a variety of exciting activities, including book giveaways, educational workshops, voter advocacy simulations, and much more. Sorority volunteers from the region’s five states will join forces to make this day a success.

Together, we can ensure that every child has access to the rich legacy and knowledge found in African American literature.

    Get Involved:

Books can be ordered through Amazon. Alternatively, books can be dropped off at Hadley Park Community Center.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization founded on January 13, 1913, by 22 collegiate women at Howard University. The organization is committed to public service, with a primary focus on the community, and has a distinguished history of promoting academic excellence, providing scholarships, supporting the underserved, advocating for civil rights, and positively impacting the community through its Five-Programmatic Thrust.
