(Nashville, TN – TN Tribune) – The Tennessee Human Rights Commission (THRC) Board of Commissioners approved the agency annual report for fiscal year (FY) 2023-2024 at the September 23, 2024, Commission meeting. The FY 2024 Annual Report is available here.

The report provides an overview of the Commission’s history and structure, shares details on the THRC’s education and outreach initiatives, and provides data on agency enforcement efforts for FY 2024. Through its education and enforcement efforts, the Commission safeguards individuals from discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, creed, sex, disability (employment and housing), age (40 and over in employment), and familial status (housing).

“I am honored to share the FY 2024 Annual Report on behalf of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission. I invite Tennesseans to learn more about the work of the Commission and our efforts to safeguard individuals from discrimination over the past year,” said Muriel Nolen, Executive Director of the THRC.

At the September 23, 2024, Commission meeting, the THRC Board of Commissioners also approved the 2023-2024 annual report for the agency’s Title VI Compliance Program. The FY 2024 Title VI Annual Report is available here.

The Title VI report provides background on the THRC Title VI Compliance Program and details the Commission’s efforts to monitor compliance with Federal Title VI regulations for 49 agencies in the State of Tennessee. Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in any program or activity that receives Federal funds or Federal Financial Assistance.

The mission of the Tennessee Human Rights Commission is “safeguarding individuals from discrimination through education and enforcement”. THRC is the primary state agency responsible for enforcing civil rights laws in Tennessee in employment, public accommodations, and housing. The Commission prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, religion, sex, disability (employment and housing), age (40 and over in employment), familial status (housing), and retaliation.
