NASHVILLE, TN — Sometimes blowout losses can be disregarded, but the Titans 27-3 wipeout in Cleveland by the Browns Sunday raises troubling questions for the remainder of the schedule.
Can the offensive line problems be solved is the first question. Aside from being unable to block wrecking ball Myles Garrett, who had 3 1/2 sacks, five QB hits and a forced fumble, the line also couldn’t open holes for Derrick Henry or Tjaye Spears. Henry was held to 20 yards rushing, his lowest total since 2017, and Spears four yards rushing and four receiving.
Second, while the defense wasn’t awful, the secondary had two pass interference penalties and two defensive holdings.
DeShaun Watson eluded Titans rushers frequently, ending with 27 completions in 33 attempts for 289 yards and a touchdown.
The Titans gained less than 100 total yards on offense, their worse output in 17 years.
Third, it’s evident former Titans defensive assistant Jim Schwartz had a positive impact on the Browns defense. They always seemed ready to counteract anything the Titans ran offensively.
The Titans did get a couple of big pass receptions from DeAndre Hopkins and Chris Moore, but failed to capitalize on them. Even on the lone big play turnover made by the defense, the offense ended up being forced backwards by the Browns attacking defensive line.
Looking forward, the Titans will host the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday.
