NASHVILLE, TN — There aren’t many travel films like “Lost Soulz,” which will be screened at the Belcourt Monday night. It spotlights the exploits of an aspiring rapper who joins a group of Gen X musicians after he makes a triumphant appearance at their house party.  Rapper Sol is a New Yorker with a colorful but also troubled past. He joins Malachi Mabson, Alex Brackney and others to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime trip. “Lost Soulz” is is Katherine Propper’s directorial debut, and the film has been being critically acclaimed, as well as its powerful soundtrack.

But not everything on this road trip goes smoothly. Eventually the novelty of Sol’s newfound family fades as the demons he left behind come back to haunt him, including his guilt over abandoning an ailing friend. Sol’s sense of self and esteem is put to the ultimate test as he seeks refuge from the rootlessness and loss that has defined his existence.

The Belcourt will host a post-screening discussion with Propper, producers Andres Figueredo and Juan Carlos Figueredo, and cast members Mabson and Brackney.  “Lost Soulz” is part of the Belcourt Theatre’s ongoing Music Mondays series. The screening begins at 8 p.m. The Belcourt is located at 2102 Belcourt Avenue.
