Los Angeles, February 2, 2024 – Carl Weathers, the iconic actor renowned for his portrayal of Apollo Creed in the legendary ‘Rocky’ film series, and more recently, for his role in ‘The Mandalorian,’ has sadly passed away at the age of 76. The news was confirmed by his manager, Matt Luber.

Weathers, a former professional football player turned actor, left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry with his powerful performances in a myriad of films and television shows. His journey from the gridiron to the silver screen captured the hearts of audiences worldwide.

The actor, who breathed life into the character of Apollo Creed, the charismatic boxer in the ‘Rocky’ franchise, was not only recognized for his talent but also for his imposing physicality. Weathers, born in New Orleans, made a seamless transition from his athletic background, playing college football at San Diego State and even having a stint with the Oakland Raiders and in the Canadian Football League.

Weathers’ breakout role came in the Oscar-winning film ‘Rocky,’ where he portrayed the formidable Apollo Creed, a character inspired by the legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. The actor’s remarkable performance led to his appearance in three sequels, solidifying his place in cinematic history.

In addition to his unforgettable ‘Rocky’ legacy, Weathers continued to shine in various roles across genres. His portrayal of Dillon in the 1987 sci-fi action film ‘Predator,’ alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger, showcased his versatility and contributed to the film’s success.
