The 2024 Country Music Awards nominations are out — and Beyoncé’s name is nowhere to be found on the list of nominees. The pop icon ventured into country music in March with the release of her 27-track album “Cowboy Carter,” featuring fan favorites “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages.” The album broke streaming records, becoming Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day in 2024 and earning the title of most first-day streams for a country album by a female artist on Amazon Music.
According to the CMA website, nominees and winners are determined by 6,000 industry professionals who make up the Country Music Association. Shaboozey, who is featured on two tracks of “Cowboy Carter,” commented after the nominations were announced, writing on his X account: “That goes without saying. Thank you @Beyonce for opening a door for us, starting a conversation, and giving us one of the most innovative country albums of all time!” Despite the absence of a nomination for Beyoncé, Shaboozey earned nods for Single of the Year and New Artist of the Year.
Other artists with significant nominations include Morgan Wallen, Cody Johnson, Chris Stapleton, and Lainey Wilson, with Wallen leading the pack with seven total nominations. Wallen made headlines earlier this year after being arrested in April for allegedly throwing a chair from a Nashville bar rooftop, following a prior controversy in 2021 when a video surfaced of him shouting a racial slur.
This isn’t the first time Beyoncé has faced what her fans consider a snub. In February, her husband Jay-Z publicly criticized the Grammys after her album “Renaissance” lost Album of the Year to Harry Styles’ “Harry’s House.” Jay-Z remarked, “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than anyone and never won Album of the Year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work.” Beyoncé holds the record for most Grammy wins by any artist, with 32 awards.
The CMAs will air on Nov. 20 on ABC.
