NASHVILLE, TN — One of the greatest names in popular music history is back with a brand new album.
Motown legend Smokey Robinson announced Friday the release of the nine-song LP “Gasms.” It is his first new project in nearly a decade, and it reaffirms his mastery as a premier writer and performer of romantic material.
At 83, Robinson still sounds elegant and passionate. He may not have the tonal range of years past, but few can match him in delivering a lyric or expressing a theme.
The album is clearly aimed at adults, with content that is equal parts erotic and enticing. Such songs as “Beside You” and “I Want to Know Your Body” are indicative of the direction and mood Robinson seeks to evoke throughout “Gasms.”
Smokey Robinson is officially credited as the writer of over 4000 songs in an amazing career thar dates back to the 50s.
As the leader of The Miracles from 1958 -1972, Robinson helped create and cement the great legacy of Motown. He not only wrote, produced and sang lead on hits for the Miracles, but also wrote and produced hits for other acts such as the Temptations and Marvelettes, and numerous solo artists throughout the Motown empire
He has been a solo artist since 1972.
“Gasms” is widely available on multiple streaming services and also on CD.
