NASHVILLE, TN — Only two episodes into its 10-week run, HBO’s LoveCraft Country” is enjoying enormous impact nationwide. Not only is it maintaining the publicity attention and audience fervor of the “Perry Mason” reboot that preceded it, but also has maintained the high quality and shock value of other prestigious HBO shows. They also proved with Sunday night’s episode “Whitey’s On The Moon” that they can stun and surprise viewers as the show concluded with the tragic and shocking death of a major character.

“Whitey’s on the Moon,” directed by Daniel Sackheim and written by Misha Green, also introduced several new characters, while leaning heavily on new plot elements and mythology that represented a major departure from Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel on which “Lovecraft Country” is based.

Some other plot elements included the return of one father and the death of two others. The program continues its seamless blend of fact and fantasy, making its points about the savagery and idiocy of racism one moment, then shifting to reveal the depth of slavish devotion to ritual and myth the next.

Green penned the initial two episodes, and it will be interesting to see how other writers address some of the issues that have been raised to date, plus how the family dynamic gets affected by the loss of a major figure.  Fans can hardly wait until Sunday to see how things evolve.
