Hendersonville, USA – Every year on the first Saturday in May thousands of people around the globe participate in World Labyrinth Day as a moving meditation for world peace and celebration of the labyrinth experience. Many “Walk as One at 1” local time to create a rolling wave of peaceful energy passing from one time zone to the next.  St. Timothy is holding a community labyrinth walk on May 1st at 1 pm as part of this worldwide event; all are welcome.  We ask that participants please wear a mask; social distancing will be observed.  Anyone who is not physically able to participate may join the event by downloading a “finger labyrinth” and walking the labyrinth at home.

In addition, that morning at 10:30 am, Kate Thomas, a member of our congregation, will hold a one-hour Zoom workshop for anyone interested in finding out more about labyrinths, their purpose and history, and how to walk a labyrinth.   To obtain the Zoom link, please e-mail sttimothylabyrinth@gmail.com.

In contemporary use, labyrinths provide an opportunity for personal reflection, spiritual practice, or the reduction of stress in many different public and private settings. Over 6,000 labyrinths, including the one at St. Timothy, are listed on the World-Wide Labyrinth Locator website: https://labyrinthlocator.com.

St. Timothy’s labyrinth is a seven-circuit labyrinth patterned after one found in the Basilica of San Vitale in Ravenna, Italy. The age of the design is not known but the floor of the church was reconstructed with this design in the 16th century after floods damaged the church.  The labyrinth is located beside St. Timothy Lutheran Church at 650 East Main Street, with ample parking in the back.  To find out more about this event, please visit our website:  https://sttimothyhendersonville.org/labyrinth/.
