NASHVILLE, TN — Nashville Repertory Theatre is thrilled to announce the final show of their season with POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive, a funny and fiercely feminist farce by Selina Fillinger at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center from May 10 – 19.
“We are excited to be closing out our 39th season with this hilarious comedy,” said Drew Ogle, executive director. “When the world gets a little crazy, it’s great to just take a few hours and sit back and laugh. And no matter which side of the aisle you’re on, you will definitely laugh if you come join us for POTUS.”
In this hilarious comedy direct from Broadway, the women of the White House show us who’s really in charge! When the President of the United States spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the seven women he relies on must risk everything to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble. POTUS is a biting satire that highlights the challenges faced by women in positions of power and the absurdity of contemporary politics.
“I am so thrilled to be back at Nashville Rep directing the wonderful Selina Fillinger’s wildly funny play POTUS with such an incredible cast of women and a brilliant design team,” said Director, Lauren Shouse (The Cake, Avenue Q). “This play is political but not partisan. It is not about one president, but an amalgamation of all of them. Through humor, it asks us to question our complicity within a patriarchal system. Selina’s play shares a battle cry that we can make change if we stop helping ‘him’ and start helping each other.”
POTUS features a cast of Nashville Rep favorites including Lauren Berst (Curious Incident, Sense and Sensibility), Tamiko Robinson Steele (School Girls, A Raisin in the Sun), Rachel Agee (Shakespeare in Love), and Kris Sidberry (A Christmas Carol). The cast is joined by Darci Nalepa Elam, Quincey Heurter, and Tamara Todres making there Nashville Rep debut.
The production team includes Scenic Design by Gary C. Hoff, Costume Design by Melissa K. Durman, Lighting Design by Darren E. Levin, Sound Design by Sara Johnson, Fight Choreography by Carrie Brewer, and Stage Management by Isaac Krispin.
Featuring an evening of nonstop comedy, the women of POTUS take charge of the White House and will have you rolling in the aisles laughing. Be warned, POTUS features bold language and mature themes and is not recommended for audiences under 16.
