NASHVILLE, TN — Dr. Sharon Gentry is officially running for re-election to the Metropolitan Board of Education from District 1, ending any speculation that she was stepping down. Dr. Gentry, twice voted Chair of the Board, first won election in 2008. She was voted Chairman in 2014, and won a second term in that post in 2018. Dr. Gentry has also been director of HCA since 1997. Barring any last minute changes due to the Coronavirus pandemic, the state and federal primary, as well as the County general election will be held August 6. At that time nominees for the Tennessee House of Representatives, Senate, Democratic and Republican Executive Committees, as well as the United States House and Senate will be chosen, along with school board members.
In addition, nominees for Property Assessor, Chancery Court, Part 1 and Criminal Court, Division IV, an Trustee will be selected. The general election is scheduled for November 3. Dr. Gentry’s district includes Joelton Elementary, Joelton Middle, Cumberland Elementary, Brick Church Middle, and Robert E. Lillard Elementary. She is among the rare school board members who hold a doctoral degree in education, having earned it from Tennessee State University along with a master’s in mechanical engineering and a bachelor’s in physics from Xavier.
