One of this year’s most highly praised and lucrative films is Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners.” It’s set in the Mississippi Delta during the 30s, and stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as criminal twin brothers who return to their hometown, where they are confronted by a supernatural evil.
It co-stars Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton (in his film debut), Jack O’Connell, Wunmi Mosaku, Jayme Lawson, Omar Benson Miller, and Delroy Lindo. There was so much buzz about “Sinners” even before it was completed that it was part of a bidding war between studios. It was announced in January 2024, and Warner Bros. acquired the distribution rights in February. Ludwig Goransson composed the score and is among its executive producers. Thus far it has not only gotten lots of favorable Oscar publicity, but grossed $367 million worldwide, despite being available via streaming on HBO Max.
Now anyone who hasn’t yet seen it and wants to get the theatrical experience can do so at the Belcourt. “Sinners” will be the feature for Music City Mondays October 27 at the special time of 9 p.m. It’s a special Halloween week screening, part of their “Shocktober” series that began October 18 and continues through Halloween.
Anyone who enjoys horror and suspense will certainly want to see the remaining lineup of films with “American Psycho” October 23, “The Omen” October 24, “Corpse Bride” October 25, “The Witch” October 26, “A Nightmare On Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge” October 28, and then multiple screenings of the holiday favorite “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” running from October 29-November 1.
