World Premiere inspired by 90 Interviews on Pregnancy, Birth, and Motherhood
Nashville, TN., Novemeber 2025 – Actors Bridge Ensemble is proud to announce a new partnership with Meharry Medical College’s Maternal Health Excellence Research Center to present “Mama Stories,” the latest choreopoem by acclaimed Nashville artist-in-residence Cynthia C. Harris. “Mama Stories” is an immersive performance experience based on 90 interviews conducted with women sharing complex, emotional, and heroic stories of pregnancy, birth, and motherhood.

Cyntha C. Harris is an established collaborator and artist-in-residence at Actors Bridge Ensemble. Nashville audiences know her for her acclaimed original works such as “How to Catch a Flying Woman” and “The Calling is in the Body.” Beyond her artistic practice, Harris is a respected public health professional committed to using art as a catalyst for community healing and radical health equity. Describing her experience in the industry, she explains:
In one part of my life, I make theater. I facilitate liberation, play, tell stories, dance, and celebrate women and girls from all walks of life. In the other part, I work with brilliant women who research and write about how to improve pregnancy and birth experiences. While these findings are often shared in academic spaces, they rarely reach the people most affected. “Mama Stories” brings these two parts of my life together to do what we always do at Actors Bridge — tell the stories Nashville needs to hear.
    ABOUT THE EVENT
“Mama Stories” will run from Nov. 13-15 at the Darkhorse Theater, with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. the performance beginning at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets to the performance are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. They can be purchased at bit.ly/MAMASTORIES.
