NASHVILLE, TN —  A team of dedicated volunteers at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church: A City of Grace kicked off Mother’s Day weekend by partnering with “But God” Ministry to help make community change. Members of the local congregation, led by Senior Pastor Frank D. Stevenson, hosted a community food drive on Friday, May 10, to help those in need.  It was in conjunction with Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee. Nearly 14,000 pounds of food items were sorted, boxed and loaded into vehicles throughout the day during the drive-thru event.  Those who donated their time and resources in support of the worthy cause included area political and business leaders along with retirees and Tennessee State University students.

For Stevenson, launching Mother’s Day weekend with a day of service helped make the project even more meaningful.  “Volunteering during a time known for celebration and relaxation was impactful because hunger doesn’t take a break for holidays or special occasions.  Many thanks to BGM and all those who joined forces to help make it possible,” he said.

Friendship Missionary Baptist Church recently celebrated its 83rd anniversary and is striving to continue its legacy of helping transform the community through excellence and service.  For more information, please visit: friendshipcog.com.

BGM is a Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee partner agency.  Under the leadership of Huntsville native Antoinette Hargrove Duke, the non-profit organization is fighting food insecurity by teaming with churches to help children, families and seniors access the food they need.
