NASHVILLE- The Middle Tennessee Bulldawgs (4-0) raced out to a 17-0 first quarter lead and cruised the rest of the way to defeat their neighbors the Tennessee Rampage (3-1) 39-0 in Mid-South Football Alliance play from Stratford High School.
“Our defense has been lights out all season and now they are once again putting up goose eggs,” said Bulldawg head coach Blaine Boone. “Once our offense gets clicking then we will really be dangerous. Their defense kept us in check. But we scored on defense and special teams. We are fun to watch on that side of the ball.”
After a 36-yard field goal by kicker Tim Brecht, defensive back Twin Johnson scored his second touchdown in as many games and tight end Trey Miller scored on a five-yard pass from Stedman Bell to give the Bulldawgs the early lead.
The 15 points in the third quarter were all by non-offensive players. Defensive tackle AJ Wynn recorded a safety. On the ensuing free kick, cornerback Chris Perkins took a lateral from Romeo Gilbert and raced 50 yards to pay-dirt. Fellow cornerback Travis Carter then picked off a pass and outran Rampage defenders 98 yards for a touchdown. Quarterback Zach Ducker finished off the scoring with a two-yard run in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldawgs are off this weekend and are preparing for one of the top teams in the MSFA the Louisville Hurricanes on July 8.
