NASHVILLE, TN — Eric Roberson is both a fine vocalist and accomplished songwriter. The long list of artists he has worked with include Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Ouslande, Carl Thomas, Vivian Green, 112, and Will Smith among others. Besides being an energetic and engaging singer, Roberson is a professor at Berklee College of Music in Boston.

That background is cleverly referenced on his latest single “Lessons,” and  further explored in a new book titled “Lessons: 100 Thoughts On Life & Love.”  But these are just the foundation for his latest album, also called “Lessons,” It’s his 17th, and anxious fans have been waiting for it’s release since it’s original date was changed. Initially slated for a January release, “Lessons” instead has only been on the street since April 1.

It offers several strong numbers that showcase both his often captivating lyrics and energetic delivery and sound. Roberson’s previous release, the 2020 album “Hear From Here” offered passionate and heartfelt songs about the impact of isolation and the disarray caused by the COVID -19 pandemic..

“Lessons” features Roberson’s stirring vocals on such tracks as the title tune, “Letting MyGuard Down,” which pairs him with Mumu Fresh, and inspirational numbers like “Start All Over Again” and “Good Loving” which also features his father, simply billed Pop Roberson.

Now on tour to promote “Lessons,” Eric Roberson comes to Nashville Friday.

Eric Roberson along with Alvin Frazier, Friday at City Winery, 609 Lafayette Street. Doors open at 6 p.m. The show starts at 8 p.m.
