Lee Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church will celebrate its annual Women’s Day during Sunday worship service, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. The celebration’s theme is “Women United in Service to God,” Corinthians 12:4-5.

The worship service will be in-person as well as broadcast on Facebook Live: Lee Chapel A.M.E. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Dr. Margaret Elaine M. Flake, known as “Rev. Elaine.” She is a powerful preacher, teacher and role model who has impacted many lives at The Greater Allen A.M.E. Cathedral in New York City. She served as co-pastor with the Rev. Dr. Floyd H. Flake until May 2020 and became senior pastor upon his retirement in June 2024.

Flake has dedicated her life to Christian education, evangelistic and outreach ministries. She and her husband founded Allen Christian School in 1982 and developed the Allen Women’s Resource Center for victims of domestic violence.

Since 1983, she has advised the Missionary Department and other ministries at Allen, coordinating the Allen Women’s Ministry department, and hosting annual retreats attended by more than 1,000 women. She played a crucial role in increasing the church’s membership to more than 15,000.

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Flake earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Fisk University. She received a Master of Arts from Boston University and a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York City. She earned the Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary of Dayton, Ohio. For her many and varied contributions to the community, Flake has received numerous honors, awards, citations, commendations and tributes and is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, National Council of Negro Women and The Links, Incorporated, in which she
    currently serves as national chaplain.

She has been married for more than 47 years to the Rev. Dr. Floyd Flake. They are the parents of four adult children.

This year’s Women’s Day program is chaired by Leah Dupree Love and Marva Bradford. Everyone is welcome and invited to Lee Chapel to celebrate and worship through the uplifting sermon and prolific fellowship. Lee Chapel is located at 1200 Dr. D.B. Todd, Jr. Boulevard and guided by the pastoral leadership of the Rev. Dr. Harold M. Love, Jr.
