NASHVILLE, TN — Life Scout Kendall Beard has completed a storybook trail in Hadley Park featuring the book The Thing About Bees: A Love Letter, for his Eagle Scout project. The book is authored by Nashville native Shabazz Larkin.

The ribbon cutting for the storybook trail will take place on Saturday, March 2 at 10 a.m. at Hadley Park in Nashville and will include a short program and light refreshments. The trail is free to the public during park hours.

A member of Troop 621, based at Lake Providence Missionary Baptist Church, Beard chose to do the storybook trail Scout project to encourage individuals and families to enjoy the outdoors while learning about the important contribution of bees to the ecosystem. The project, which took about 120 hours to complete, was partially funded by the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation.
Beard, who was recently named Scout of the Year by the Middle Tennessee Council Boy Scouts of America, said “I really enjoy the outdoors and nature and want to make a contribution to Hadley Park because of its significance as the first public park in the United States for African Americans. Beard is a graduating senior at Stewarts Creek High School and plans to study animal science and agriculture at the University of Tennessee in the Fall.
“We are extremely proud of Kendall and his hard work towards this project, said his parents Katina and Michael Beard. “It reflects his love for all outdoors and books.”
