Nashville, TN (TN Tribune) – For 20 years, the Nashville Jazz Workshop (NJW) has delivered community programming, enriching lives and sustaining the Jazz art form through Jazz education and performances. This Summer, NJW is excited to launch this free event, Jazz AM, their newest initiative dedicated to the children of North Nashville on Saturday, June 5th at 10am in Hadley Park. NJW is taking the lead to ensure the future of Nashville is truly a Music City by bringing Jazz music to the ears of young Nashvillians.
NJW will host a monthly series of free one-hour Saturday morning events aimed at exposing children to Jazz through age appropriate activities involving improvisation, rhythm and movement. Jazz Greats like Louis Armstrong will come to life as talented puppet characters that are sure to inspire children from all around Nashville. The entertaining programming, facilitated by trained professionals and Jazz musicians, is designed to engage students, encourage creativity, promote collaboration and build musicianship among children aged 2-10 and families.
“The impact of music on children has and will continue to be a profound part of children’s foundation,” says NJW Executive Director, Eric Dilts. “Learning about Jazz impacts children’s creativity and musical development even before they learn to play an instrument. We are excited to launch this initiative to the heart of the North Nashville community powered by our great partners Community Foundation and Zander Insurance.”
Jazz AM will be hosted at Hadley Park through June and July. Social distancing and additional measures will be taken to ensure a fun, safe family friendly event. In the Fall, the program will move to NJW’s new state of art facility at 1012 Buchanan Street in North Nashville.
