NASHVILLE, TN — So far 2022 has been a very good year for the Nashville Sounds, but lately they’ve encountered rough going. They fell behind early Sunday against the Norfolk Tides and ultimately lost 7-2, dropping consecutive series for the first time this season. The Sounds continue to draw well, attracting over 8,000 (8,165) for the Sunday afternoon contest at First Horizon Park. But they were behind early and never were able to catch up.

It was a sub-par outing for Sounds’ starter Dylan File. He took his third loss of the season, giving up five runs and eight hits in only four innings. The Sounds did briefly rally in the bottom of the first, as Corey Ray doubled and eventually scored on Weston Wilson’s sacrifice fly. But Norfolk soon extended the lead, getting three runs in the fourth, among them a solo home run from former Sound Beau Taylor.

Mario Feliciano provided Nashville’s final run with a single that scored Pablo Reyes in the bottom of the fourth.

The Sounds’ Jonathan Davis extended his on-base streak to 23 games by drawing a third inning walk. He’s hitting nearly .300 (.297) during the streak. Abraham Almonte has also been a hot hitter this month, hitting .321 in June, and had a hit in three times at bat plus a walk. Jon Singleton leads the International League in walks and got his 45th in the second inning.

But the Sounds still began the week leading the International League’s Western Division. However their once healthy lead had been reduced to only a game and a half over Colorado, and they’ve lost seven of their last 10 games. They began a six game road trip against the Redbirds in Memphis Tuesday. They return home June 21 for a 12-game home stand, beginning with Gwinnett and continuing with Indianapolis, running through the Fourth of July.
