The Equity Alliance Fund Endorses Aftyn Behn for Congress in Tennessee’s 7th District

NASHVILLE, Tenn., October 31, 2025 — The Equity Alliance Fund (TEAF) announced its endorsement of Aftyn Behn for Congress in Tennessee's 7th Congressional District, a race that has become a referendum on five years of grassroots organizing and a test of whether Black political power can flip one of Tennessee’s reddest districts.

Recent polling shows the race within 6 points in a district Donald Trump won by 22 points in 2020, a transformation TEAF attributes to sustained voter registration, community organizing, and deep canvassing across Davidson, Montgomery, Williamson, and Maury counties.

“This race isn’t just about a seat in Congress, it’s about the future of Tennessee,” said Tequila Johnson, Co Founder and CEO of The Equity Alliance Fund. “Aftyn represents what it looks like when everyday people stand up to Donald Trump’s extremist agenda and reclaim power for the people. At a time when our rights, our freedoms, and our democracy are under attack, Aftyn has proven she will fight for working families, for public education, and for the kind of Tennessee where everyone has a voice. The Equity Alliance Fund’s endorsement follows Behn’s continued commitment to policies that reflect the values of equity, accountability, and justice. During her time in public service Behn has championed policies that directly address economic injustice, from ending Tennessee's regressive grocery tax that burdens working families, to legalizing marijuana to fund crumbling infrastructure. Taking abstract positions that mean survival and dignity for everyday Tennesseans.

“While Trump and his allies are working overtime to silence our voices and strip away our freedoms, Aftyn is working to make sure every Tennessean has a seat at the table,” Johnson added. “She’s proven that she’s not bought or sold by corporate interests. She’s for the people, period.”

The Equity Alliance Fund remains steadfast in its mission to build independent Black political and economic power across Tennessee. This endorsement reflects TEAF’s commitment to supporting candidates who show up, speak up, and follow through in our communities that have historically been excluded from political power. The organization’s ground game is active throughout the 7th District, engaging voters, recruiting volunteers, and ensuring that every voice is heard ahead of the December 2 special election.

“This race is about stopping an extremist agenda that forces Tennessee families to choose between life-saving medication and putting food on the table,” Johnson said. “It’s about protecting our freedoms, our democracy, and our future, and proving that the South still has something to say.”

“Power has a name,” Johnson added. “Ours. And The Equity Alliance Fund is ready to build it
alongside Aftyn Behn and the people of Tennessee’s 7th District.”
