NASHVILLE, TN — The Turner School of Construction Management (TSCM) for small, disadvantaged, minority-, women-, and veteran-owned businesses is one of the most unique and innovative education and community outreach programs in the construction industry.

TSCM’s free training program offers participants the opportunity to improve their economic viability by enhancing their managerial, technical, and administrative skills, as well as developing strategic business relationships throughout the industry. Founded in 1969, TSCM is offered in more than 30 of Turner’s offices nationwide.

The Nashville program is presented in partnership with the Tennessee Small Business Development Center on the Avon Williams Campus at Tennessee State University. The   incoming class will meet Tuesdays beginning January 17. Each session is two hours in length and participants must commit to attend at least seven of the eight sessions.

Participants must be construction-oriented firms which have been in business for a minimum of three years and must be certified as one of the following:  small business and/or minority-, women-, veteran-, LGBTQ-, disabled-, disadvantaged-owned business enterprises.

The program covers areas such as safety, building and estimating, contract risk management, procurement, business development and marketing, and more. Each course is taught by professional Turner staff and, where applicable, augmented by industry partners to dive deeper into topics such as bonding, accounting, and contract law, to name a few.

“TSCM has helped attendees win progressively larger contacts, understand what it takes to work for Turner and other large general contractor/construction management firms, and has helped build networks which have led to more than 400 joint venture or associate partnerships,” said Herbert Brown, Community & Citizenship Director at Turner’s Nashville office.

Applications are being accepted through December 30; accepted participants will be notified by January 6, 2023. For more information or to apply to the next class, visit this link. Nationwide, the program boasts more than 30,000 graduates; in Nashville, twenty businesses graduated from the program last year. It was the first in person TSCM since 2019 due to COVID-19.
