Nashville, TN – On the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the Root Nashville campaign will host its third annual Fall Planting Party, which promises to be one of the largest citywide volunteer tree planting events of the year. Volunteers will come together on November 23rd to plant hundreds of trees at multiple sites in Davidson County, including schools, apartment complexes, and places of worship. The annual event brings together community members to participate in the Root Nashville campaign’s goal to plant 500,000 trees by 2050. This fall, it’s made all the more special by the exciting news that the campaign will plant its 50,000th tree in December.

“Urban reforestation is crucial for Nashville’s environmental future. Trees help reduce the urban heat island effect, improve water quality, and reduce harmful stormwater runoff,” says Jason Sprouls, Urban Forestry Program Manager at Root Nashville’s leading operational organization, the Cumberland River Compact. “Our mission to restore the city’s tree canopy is a major part of creating a healthier, more climate-resilient future for Nashvillians. This year’s Fall Planting Party will make a major impact, with some individual planting sites receiving as many as 75 new trees.”

Sites receiving trees include TSU, Glen Leven Presbyterian, Fairfield Baptist Church, Gibson Creek Apartments, Glen Leven Farm, and Kingswood Condominiums.

Root Nashville is a public-private campaign led by Metro Nashville and the Cumberland River Compact. Through this campaign, volunteers have planted trees across neighborhoods in need of more green space, ensuring that the benefits of urban forestry are distributed equitably throughout the city. This year’s Fall Planting Party will continue this vital work, bringing together hundreds of volunteers for a day of action that strengthens the city’s environment and community.
